The concert, part of the Women on Wednesday series, is a musical, literary and dance performance that will explore the artistic expressions of women from the African Diaspora. The evening employs a reinterpretation of "round robin sessions" where each artist will share with their fellow performers, writers and musicians, their work to generate a discussion at the end of the performance. This event will feature the talents of The Mimi Jones Band; poets Tara Betts, LaTasha N. Nevada Diggs and, Tonya Foster; and choreographer dancer Paloma McGregor.

Priestess of Soul. Paloma's work is set to a soundscore of interviews with Nina Simone and music created by RA Washington.

AP3 co-founders Paloma and Patricia McGregor have joined forces as part of the creative team behind the premier of Mendi+Keith Obadike's latest performance work, Four Electric Ghosts. This multimedia "opera-masquerade" is inspired by the Nigerian novel My Life in the Bush of Ghosts and the 80s video game PacMan. Through live music, text, dance and video, the work creates a composite world at the intersection of game culture, the folktale and pop songs. Check out a sneak preview.

Angela's Pulse co-founder dances at United Nations, March 25

Angela's Pulse co-founder Paloma McGregor will be performing at the United Nations' 2009 Commemoration of the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade, one of ten award-winning dancers of various nationalities in a piece dedicated to the Middle Passage. The evening will also include such artists as Peter Buffett, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Danny Glover, Salif Keita, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, The Marley Brothers and Phylicia Rashad.

Angela's Pulse in concert March 20-21

Through a variety of dance, poetry and theater performances, this diverse and thematic work, as part of Women's History Month, is in honor of the significant contributions of women and their historical triumphs.

Through a balance of professional and student performances, the audiences will view work from choreographers Nia Love of Blacksmith's Daughter, Christal Brown of INSPIRIT, Paloma McGregor of Urban Bush Women, and HSA Dance Instructor Keith Anthony Lewis. Additional performances by poet Nabiyah and a theatrical work written and directed by E. Mesiyah McGinnis.

NPR Accolades for Blood Dazzler

Patricia Smith's book of poetry, Blood Dazzler, was selected as one of NPR's Top 5 Books of 2008. The book is the basis for our dance/theater collaboration by the same name, which will premiere at New York's New Dance Group in June 2009. So while we wait to hear about the National Book Award, we can warm ourselves in the glow of this honor for Smith's amazing work.

Paloma McGregor's solo dance work, By Definition, is being performed this Saturday (Oct. 18) at 3 p.m. at New Dance Group. The show is FREE! Maresa D'Amore-Morrison, an apprentice with Urban Bush Women, will be dancing this piece, which uses a soundscore of dictionary definitions (by Patricia McGregor/Gary Galbraith) and a costume of deconstructed, multi-hued pantyhose (by me) to explore our conceptions of race. Angela's Pulse Performance Projects will show a section of Blood Dazzler, my dance/theater collaboration with 4-time National Poetry Slam Champion Patricia Smith and Angela's Pulse Co-Founder Patricia McGregor. The sneak-peek is part of performance celebrating the release of Smith's newly published collection of poems by the same name.

SATURDAY, Galapagos Art Space, 60 x 60 ($10 suggested donation)
Paloma McGregor will be performing two short solos. Just got the music a couple days ago. Check out the description: 60 Compositions from 60 composers, each composition 60 seconds or less performed in synchronization with an analog clock. Each song is accompanied by choreography and presented in 60 minutes. 60X60 is conceived by Vox Novus as a "churning wheel of new music production, performance, and dissemination."

Modern Dance at New Dance Group

Paloma McGregor has a new teaching home in the city, New Dance Group. Since the 1930s, this not-for-profit organization has supported the development of innovative artists and teachers, including a personal hero, Pearl Primus.

I am inheriting an amazing legacy. Join me Monday nights in this beautiful dance space, where we will unearth our movement potentials, grow and have fun. Check it out.
